Sexual Assault Survivor Stories Podcast
The path from abuse to empowerment…this title doesn’t quite do justice to this story; but it’s a good start. Victoria Ellen IS a survivor! But even more that, she is a powerhouse. She married a man who wasn’t at all what he seemed. What started out as a loving, encouraging and pretty wonderful marriage turned into what was, in reality, a textbook example of the cycle of domestic violence. Victoria’s husband started showing his true self: a controlling, power-crazed narcissist. He became a pastor. But he used what was supposed to be sacred and honor-filled into manipulative coercion and fear, using his self-perceived spiritual leadership into a tool; a tool of malevolence. The power and control Victoria’s husband wielded manifested with physical assault, rape, and sexual assault. Sadly, Victoria wasn’t the only victim of this man’s assaultive actions. Victoria started seeing the signs of sexual assault coming from her two children. Toddlers. A mother’s worst nightmare. The path of this relationship however, as the title of this episode states, went from abuse to empowerment. Victoria became ferocious in her designs to eliminate this abusive monster from her and her children’s lives. She did it…she left that man. How? That’s where the book she wrote comes in. Painting in the Rain: A True Story of Trickery and Triumph, tells the incredible story. Thank you for being a SASS listener. Please subscribe to the show, then give it a five-star rating. When the one hurting you is in your own home: An interview with author Victoria Ellen Part 1
Real Talk with Tina and Ann
What if the person who vowed to love and protect you was the very one orchestrating your pain? Join us on Real Talk with Tina and Ann as Ann sits down with Victoria Ellen, the courageous author of "Painting in the Rain: A True Story of Trickery and Triumph." Victoria shares her chilling journey of surviving domestic abuse at the hands of her former husband, Daryl—a charming facade that masked a controlling and dark nature. Together, we unravel the complex web of deception often hiding behind religious facades and the societal misconceptions that enable it.
Victoria's story is a poignant reminder of the insidious nature of narcissistic grooming and manipulation. We explore how her ex-husband's sociopathic tendencies were adeptly cloaked under the guise of charm and religiosity, creating an environment ripe for control and emotional turmoil. As Victoria recounts her own susceptibility to Daryl's influence, our discussion highlights the critical importance of recognizing red flags and the subtle, often overlooked signs of an abuser who conceals their true intentions.
Through Victoria's testimony, we are inspired by her resilience and strength in escaping such a toxic environment. We delve into the intricacies of mental and emotional control, the pain of realizing abuse extends to one's child, and the crucial role of supportive friends in breaking free from the cycle of abuse. This episode is a powerful testament to the endurance of the human spirit in the face of adversity and the urgent need for awareness and support for victims of abuse.
The Escape: Victoria Ellen's Courageous fight against abuse and systematic failures- Part 2
Victoria Ellen's extraordinary journey from terror to triumph is the heart of this episode. Eight months pregnant and seeking refuge from an abusive marriage, Victoria's tale is a powerful testament to courage and resilience. Supported by her father, she reflects on the fear of the unknown and the importance of having a support system during such critical times. Her story unfolds with raw honesty, highlighting the bravery required to escape and the inadequacies of legal protections like civil orders in truly safeguarding victims.
We also shine a spotlight on the systemic failures within child abuse investigations through the experiences of a determined mother and her children. Despite valid claims, the justice system's inertia and manipulation tactics employed by an abusive father left them vulnerable. Our conversation uncovers the frustrating gaps within the justice process that leave families feeling powerless, while also highlighting the relentless pursuit of justice by those who refuse to be silenced. The narrative serves as a call for urgent reform, underscoring the critical need for a more effective and empathetic response from authorities.
As Victoria and other voices share their paths to healing, the episode becomes a beacon of hope, demonstrating the transformative power of resilience. We explore the profound impact of personal stories, from overcoming skin cancer to finding love and grace in unexpected places. Symbols like the number 17 and the sighting of a bald eagle become emblems of victory and hope, illustrating the spirit of empowerment in the face of adversity. These stories collectively emphasize that sharing and supporting one another can inspire change and foster strength in those who listen.
